Electric Signs Electric Signs are everywhere and come all types of shapes, sizes and colors. Some are very unique and can even become a local landmark of significance. Most electric signs have lights sources of neon or fluorescent, however, fiber optics and LED lighting sources are gaining in popularity. The most common types of electric signs are naked neon, a fluorescent pole, fluorescent wall mount or channel letters. The naked neon gives a great retro look and can be very elegant. Fluorescent signs are very bright and are the most economical and versatile. The Fluorescent box signs can be seen at many businesses and feature removable faces. Channel letters have increased in popularity and can be found in strip malls everywhere. The light source is typically lighted with neon although LED (light emitting diode) or fluorescent lamps can be used. Most electric signs are housed in sheet metal to give a good barrier to the elements and to protect the electric components. Sign faces for most fluorescent signs are simply made from acrylic or lexan (polycarbonate) materials and can easily be updated and changed.
