Acrylic Signs Acrylic used in sign making comes in many colors and thickness and is also know as plexiglass. This is a very versatile material and many very creative things can be produced using this material. White Acrylic is commonly used for fluorescent sign faces as it is translucent to allow filtered light through and looks very nice with translucent vinyl applied to it. Clear acrylic can also be used as a cover to protect signs. One drawback to using acrylic is it is very brittle and when used in a large surface area it can shatter when struck by an object. Lexan which is a polycarbonate material can also be used and is very resistant to breakage. The drawback is it only comes in white and is more expensive. We also use acrylics for custom signs with cut out letters or shapes. It can be laminated to thicker materials for a 3-D effect or applied directly to a substrate to show off its shiny colors. Acrylic is used to make many types of signs. Clear acrylic is used in many indoor signs or as a clear protective cover for many outdoor signs. Acrylics is also used to create many special effects for a wide variety of signs. To specify and order your Acrylic Sign: Think about what you would like it to say on your sign and the size you want.
